Interpreting the Results
There are two analyses to choose from: the Environmental Relative Moldiness Index (ERMI) and the American Relative Moldiness Index (ARMI). The ERMI analyzes 36 mold species and compares the log sum of the results to the results obtained in the EPA database generated during the 2006 Housing and Urban Development (HUD) American Healthy Homes Study. The ERMI is used to compare the results of your home against the results in the EPA database of moldy and healthy homes. The ERMI is a good screening test to determine whether your home may have a mold problem.
EPA has also developed the American Relative Moldiness Index (ARMI) to reduce the cost of the analysis. The ARMI is the analysis of 13 mold species and compares the log sum of the results against the ERMI database. EPA indicates that the ARMI has a good correlation to the ERMI for determining whether your home has a mold problem.
